What Is Past Life Regression, and How Does It Work?
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word "past life"? If you're one-third of the American population that believes in reincarnation, you'd probably feel completely at ease with the topic. There are numerous well-documented cases of children who have recalled a past life with 90% accuracy. Yet, there isn't hard scientific evidence to support life beyond this life.
It's hard to say for sure that we have lived before. However, the possibility still exists, and many cultures have practiced past life regression since the beginning of recorded history.
Past life regression gained mainstream popularity in the late-80s due to Dr. Brian L. Weiss's best-selling book Many Lives, Many Masters. The Yale-educated psychiatrist put his entire career at risk when he published stories recounting clients' spontaneous past life experiences and his subsequent verification of the information through public records.
In recent years, past life regression is becoming a hot topic as more scientific research has been published on the effectiveness of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. Whether or not you're ready to experience a past life regression at the moment, it's always important to stay informed. Below, I've answered some of the most common questions to help you better understand past life regression.
What is a past life regression?
Past life regression is a process that therapists and hypnotherapists use to help people recover memories from their past lives.
What are the benefits of past life regression?
Past life regression is used for self-discovery, healing, and personal growth. In my experience, the sessions allow us to deepen our intuition and personal wisdom.
The sessions allow us to become more aware of our fear-based egoic projections, social constructs, and self-sabotaging behaviors. It's like seeing our past and current lives through an undistorted lens, and this precise clarity helps us make the changes necessary to live a more fulfilling life in the present.
From a therapeutic perspective, a past life regression can help people find relief from a phobia with no known cause or phantom pain as they identify the causation via a past life. In addition, due to the spiritual nature of the session, it's also been helpful for people facing a terminal illness to find peace as they face their mortality. Finally, it can also be cathartic for people who have lost a loved one.
What happens during a past life regression?
The process typically starts with hypnosis and relaxation techniques designed to calm the nervous system, known a hypnotic induction. This series of techniques to help you access a hypnagogic state (the natural state you experience between wakefulness and sleeping).
We can easily bypass the "rational" or "critical" thoughts within this hypnagogic state and access the unconscious (or subconscious). Accessing the unconscious is like connecting to all the information on your computer's hard drive instead of just having limited access to your computer's memory. Simply put, it's your ultimate warehouse of memories, resources, and information.
You are then led through a series of visualizations to help you practice seeing scenes and trusting the information delivered to you from your unconscious. Then, assuming you're following along, the time travel begins, and you arrive at a past life memory.
Within the session, you may explore the characters, themes, and soul lessons from that past life. You might identify people or soulmates that are familiar to you in their current life. We typically explore your passing in that lifetime, which naturally leads to rich wisdom and a divine connection with your higher consciousness.
